Education for high-fliers

A hexacopter, or a drone propelled by six rotors, was built by robotics enthusiasts during their meetings at the Świdnica Youth Culture Center. The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone „INVEST-PARK”.

The hexacopter is a flying drone weighing a little over 3 kg. Equipped with six propellers, it can lift objects weighing up to 12 kg. Thanks to a GPS module, the vehicle can return to the base on its own even when communication with the controller has been lost. The drone is also equipped with a camera for recording images that can be viewed using special goggles. Its operating range is around 2 km.

The drone was constructed on the initiative of Zbigniew Brożbar, a teacher, during robotics classes at the Youth Culture Center in Świdnica. The work was carried out by three middle school students. The Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone contributed financially to purchasing the components. However, the work has not been finished yet. The drone will now be equipped with a special cover and an HD camera. The project participants will also have to learn to program the vehicle and control it.

Within this year’s sponsorship program, the Wałbrzych zone has supported more than 30 sports and educational initiatives with a total amount of 113,000 zlotys. More projects to be supported will be selected in August. It is still possible to submit applications for financing. The rules and the documents that must be sent to the seat of “INVEST-PARK” can be found on our website.
